Lets say if you're the CEO of eBAY
Then one time out of the blue, one hacker managed to break into the database. All confidential files like credit card, transaction record amd client's identity are lost and wiped out.
How detrimental would that be to the business? Lost of customer's confidence, lost of credibility? You name it.
Another way of thought, think about paypal. Just imagine if one people managed to manipulate a customer's database, e.g. balance manipulation =O
One example(fictional I guess) of the impact can be seen in Die Hard 4 movie =O
Remember that the criminal wanted to crash the stock market and cripple the economy? Just picture it like, suddenly you got a bunch of money floating around which you don't know who it belongs to. - Impact:

Lost of Money
Lost of Customers
Lost of sponsors or business partners
